There are various types of arrow shafts. Each type of material has certain advantages and disadvantages. Heres a look at the different types.

Aluminum

It's pretty common to find arrow shafts made from aluminum. Aluminum arrows can be manufactured much more consistently than their wooden counterparts. Theyre also much more durable and available in many different sizes. Wooden shafts can't be used with interchangeable arrowheads. Aluminum shafts can. Price is the main disadvantage of aluminum shafts. They can also be bent when they suffer a hard impact which will affect future use of the arrow.

Wood

It's also common for shafts to be made from wood. Wood is the cheapest material available. Beginners would benefit greatly by using wooden shafts. Their cheap price shouldn't keep you from buying more as you break them while learning. However, wood can't be manufactured very consistently. Wood is naturally inconsistent, so the resulting arrows wont be perfect.

Composite

Composite arrows consist of aluminum wrapped with carbon. Composite shafts are even more durable than their aluminum counterparts. They also have a great advantage when it comes to speed. However, youll have to pay for all of this speed and durability.

Fiberglass

You may also come across shafts that are made from fiberglass. Like with aluminum, they can be manufactured very consistently. They're also popular because they can be bought in many different weights and sizes. Durability is the main problem with fiberglass shafts. If you're not careful, these shafts will easily break since they're so brittle.
